This stupendous Theresian building was used for storing and giving out grain to miners till 1912. It is now a monument of national significance.
Idrija miner’s house was built in the second half of the 18th century. It’s nestled on the slope facing the town below.
Idrija ‘kamšt’ is a water pump with a wooden water-driven wheel with a diameter of 13.6 metres. It is known to be the biggest still preserved wooden water wheel of this type in Europe.
Pit water constantly disturbed the mining, so pumping systems had to be constructed to enable pumping the pit water out.
The castle was built in the first half of the 16th century as the administrative building of the Idrija Mercury Mine – the second largest mercury mine in the world.
At the side of the Trg sv. Ahacija Square there is a mighty building, known as Šelštev with the entrance into Anthony’s Shaft, the tourist mine.
In authentic mining environment – in the Francis’ Shaft entrance building there is a collection of 29 specimens of machines and devices representing the valuable memorials of technical heritage of Idrija Mercury Mine.
