Gačnik is an extremely interesting and nothing but mysterious torrent ravine with numerous waterfalls, troughs, canyons and pools that have been raising excitement for ages.

Its spring is located at the farm named Krpcija and it’s nothing but an idyllic creek along the plateau at first. When it reaches the plateau edge, it immediately plunges down the steep rocks and needs only 8 km to descend by 800 m of height until it reaches the river Trebuščica. On its furious journey down the slopes it has created no less than fourteen waterfalls. The first one can be seen if you stop at the Brdar farm. In the past the water was dammed here and redirected into the nearest ravine Pršjakova grapa which was useful for floating wood.

The Brdar farm also had a mill at Gačnik. Lower down, there is the Macesnov slap (Larch Waterfall), a magnificent one, named after the nearby huge larch tree. The best known waterfalls lower down the stream are the Studenčkov slap (Little Well Waterfall), the 27-metre high Skriti slap (Hidden Fall) with an incredibly dark pool and the Stopničast slap (Graduated Waterfall). Beside the waterfalls there are also other natural and geological phenomena to be admired in this ravine. Few people know that on the slopes along the stream it is still possible to see the venue of the central pharmacy of the 9th Corps from the time of WWII. For experts of medical science this venue is just as significant and interesting as the partisan military hospitals Pavla and Franja.
